Job Summary


This position will perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks in a variety of maintenance areas. This includes but is not limited to making adjustments to machinery, replacing parts, repairing buildings, equipment, custodial duties and miscellaneous articles as well as providing assistance to other maintenance staff such as the Locksmith, Carpenters, Masons, Painters and Goundskeepers. The position will also provide leadwork and instruction to 2-4 incarcerated individuals at MCF-Stillwater's leve 4 closed custody facility.

This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals at the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF) - Stillwater.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.

Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.

Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.

Preferred Qualifications

Possess the skills and abilities necessary to fabricate, install, remove, repair and select proper materials in order to do repair work and renovation within the facility.

Basic knowledge in grounds keeping, snow removal, and irrigation systems.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis and respiratory screening. The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. For a copy of the PDA, please email Teresa Moen at teresa.moen@state.mn.us.

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
