The Scheduling Specialist II is responsible for warm accurate scheduling and financially related data collection prior to a patient arriving at the facility. Maintains a thorough knowledge of scheduling imaging modalities and preps and insurance requirements to facilitate precertification, referral and authorization. Acts as a resource in department and offices; sometimes preparing “help fact sheets” or training. Must be willing to perform job standards and provide excellent customer service to staff, patients and visitors in a manner consistent with Mercy Medical Centers' Service Excellence Standards, Mission and Values.

Education and Work Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- 2 years in health care registration setting preferred

Certification Requirements:
- Prefer employee to be working towards CHAA certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following:
- Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel
- Microsoft Outlook
- Meditech (if applicable to position)
- Epic (if applicable to position)
- Performance Manager/NetLearning
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
- Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Other Requirements:
- Customer service experience preferred
- Prioritization & organizational skills, multi-tasking, routine office skills, ie: copier/fax use, web based verification tools
- Must be able to multi task in a hectic, often stressful, fast paced environment and deal with hostile people in a calm efficient manner.
- Must be able to accurately type 30 WPM
- May be expected to work outside routine scheduled shifts/days and in other areas of the department as needed.
- Can prioritize responsibilities and work independently
