The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is seeking a qualified and dynamic candidate to fill our new Employment Services Advisor position. This position is responsible for advising the department on all disciplinary matters, the administration and interpretation of the labor contracts covering approximately 1600 employees and assisting with setting of strategic goals/policies for the department’s employment and labor relations issues. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and have the results of their work normally accepted without significant change. This position’s strategic role in employment and labor relations issues is critical to ensure the department manages it labor force in a fair and equitable manner. The position will supervise a Legal Assistant who understands confidentiality and can assist in producing the documents necessary as part of the discipline process. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in handling critical employment and labor issues in a legally complex, unionized environment. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Human Resources. - Draft, circulate, and finalize disciplinary documents.

Gather, summarize, and present comparatives analysis to the SPD Command Staff related to discipline- Participate in disciplinary meetings with SPD Command Staff and the Office of Police Accountability.
- Attend Loudermill pre-disciplinary meetings.
- Work collaboratively with SPD to strengthen the department’s disciplinary system, increase consistency in discipline, and help ensure the department’s police accountability goals are met.
- Work with the assistant city attorney tasked with overseeing the work on the federal consent decree.
- Respond to Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Human Rights Commission (HRC), and Seattle Office of Civil Rights (SOCR) charges and requests for information.
Required Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration or a related field and three years of increasing human resource responsibilities; or the equivalent education and/or training and/or experience that would allow the applicant to do the work of the position.
Desired Qualifications:
A Juris Doctorate degree.- High-level of understanding of employment and labor law.
- Previous labor relations experience.
Must successfully complete a Seattle Police Department background investigation.

The full salary range for this position is $47.85 - $71.80 per hour.
